Home Depot Supports Domestic Violence Awareness Month

The Governor’s Office of Youth, Faith and Family is partnering with Arizona Home Depot stores to sell purple light bulbs for the Lighting Arizona Purple Campaign. A special display of purple lightbulbs will be available at all Arizona Home Depot stores beginning September 1st. Arizonans are encouraged to light their homes purple for the month of October in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and post pictures to #LightingAZPurple. Lighting Arizona Purple is an annual campaign that encourages the state to take a stance against domestic violence.

“In Arizona: 1 in 4 women and 1 in 7 men are victims to domestic violence. In 2014, there were at least 100 domestic related fatalities. At least one child witnesses a domestic violence incident every 44 minutes. By lighting Arizona purple, getting the information out, wearing purple and explaining the reason to everyone who asks, we are sending the message that Arizonan’s are no longer going to stand for these statistics [domestic violence]. Here at the Capitol and across the State, Arizonans stand united in numbers against domestic violence and abuse. By working together and taking a stand, It Can Stop!” – Governor Doug Ducey

Governor Doug Ducey will light the Capitol dome purple as a symbol of Arizona’s dedication to ending domestic violence at an event outside the Capitol on October 3, 2016 from 6–7 pm. All Arizonans are invited to attend. For more information and to register visit
