Book Review: Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’Easter

Reviewed by Yvonne Schneider, Books n Treasures

Whistlin’ Dixie in a Nor’Easter is the first novel written by Lisa Patton. She is a Memphis native with many years of experience in music and entertainment. The novel starts out in Memphis, Tennessee, with the author introducing us to Leelee Satterfield. She appears to have it all with a devoted husband, two lovely daughters, three best friends, and a lovely southern home, which she decorated exquisitely herself.

One day Baker, her husband, approaches her with an incredible idea. He explains he is sick of the insurance business and would like to try his hand at running their own business—in Vermont! He proceeds to read an ad in North American Inns magazine. She listens stunned as he recounts the magnificent opportunity the purchaser can obtain with the acquisition of the Vermont Haus Inn. Baker also pulls out three picture books of Vermont to show her the amazing fall foliage. She does not believe she is hearing him correctly. Leave Memphis? Born and raised there, her daddy would shudder in his grave at the prospect. Her daddy is the reason they have the beautiful home they live in since Baker’s income could never support their lifestyle. Baker exclaims, “I’m bored Leelee, It’s time to see the world!”, to which Leelee replies, “Can’t we just travel the world, do we have to move?” She promises to visit the inn with him after he asks her to consider it.
