Quilts of Valor is a non-profit foundation whose goal is to cover servicemen with a freedom quilt, honoring them for their sacrifices.
Making Quilts of Valor began in 2003 and now has spread across the United States. Locally in the White Mountains, the Card Tricks Quilt Guild began making Quilts of Valor as a group four years ago. Beloved quilter, Lynn Hartzell, gathered and invited all quilters in the White Mountains to make these quilts.
This group has given 15-20 quilts each year to veterans in a special ceremony at the “For the Love of Quilts” Show. Any veteran, whether active or inactive, who resides in the White Mountains is eligible to receive a quilt. Names can be submitted to local quilt shops. There will be a random drawing and the veterans will be notified as to the date and time of the presentation of the quilts.
The “For the Love of Quilts” 20th Annual Quilt Show will be August 9th,2018 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.and August 10th, 2018 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Honoring our veterans with a quilt is the heart of many quilters who volunteer to make these beautiful quilts each year.
