On June 10th, bow makers, basket weaving, crown dances, and other Apache crafts were showcased when Native Women Scholars sponsored the second Evening of Apache Culture at the garden of Pico’s Nursery.
This non-profit group was formed four years ago to provide college assistance to Native women from the White Mountain Apache area. For the 2015 – 16 school year, the organization awarded $21,500 in scholarship assistance to ten women members of the White Mountain Apache Tribe.
Those women are attending Northern Pioneer College, Northern Arizona University, University of Arizona, Phoenix College, Grand Canyon University, Central Arizona College, and Fort Lewis College. They are doing amazing well with outstanding grades.
The evening featured refreshments, demonstrations, arts and crafts, and entertainment—all with a Native theme.
