Water: one oxygen and two hydrogen atoms that make up a substance that covers 71% of the earth’s surface, constitutes 55% – 78% of our own bodies and is vital to all forms of known life.
Water. We’ve got to have it. Civilizations have literally risen and fallen at the feet of water and there is just no denying its importance. Much like oxygen, it is one of those things you don’t just miss when it’s gone, you’re dead if you don’t have it.
With the sheer importance of water now completely underscored, I give you a great place to get it in all it’s glorious forms (Can we say coffee?) operated by people who are working hard for the community well.
Adria Acosta and Mike Bosley moved here five years ago from Kodiak, Alaska. Adria’s parents had bought White Mountain Purified Water and Ice and the couple (and their beloved black labs) came to run it. Located up on the hill overlooking the meadow and Show Low Bluffs, the business has quickly become a popular community watering hole.
“We purify our water through reverse osmosis. The water that comes out of the ground always has particulates and contaminants that we cannot see with the naked eye. We take a lot of pride in using eleven different processes on the water and when we are done, it is almost as pure as distilled water. This really lets you enjoy the flavor of good clean water whether by itself or brewed into coffee,” says Mike Bosley during our recent interview.
Working off the premise that good water makes not only good ice, but also great coffee and tea, Mike and Adria opened The Pour Station at White Mountain Purified Water and Ice in March of 2013. The people rejoiced and the couple opened the convenient Drive Thru in October 2014. The Pour Station is a cozy little coffee shop serving coffee drinks, smoothies, and tea. They also feature pastries and other baked goods from Karen’s Country Bake Shoppe and donuts from White Mountain Donuts. Pouring (yes, pun intended) their hearts and souls into their work, Mike and Adria have taken supplying good, clean water to entirely new heights.
“As one might expect, there are a lot of health benefits from drinking good water. Tap water contains chlorine and fluoride, which we take out. With everything we see in the news about what is in our food and water, it is nice to know that you can at least drink clean water,” smiles Adria.
“If you think about the hardness of our water up here, it can kill a coffee pot very quickly,” adds Mike with a laugh, “It makes you wonder what it is happening to your own insides. If it is lining this coffee pot with concrete crud, what is it doing to my body? Another major health benefit to just drinking water is that it is very heart healthy. A lot of scientists have found that two glasses of water before bed really helps your heart. It makes sense to deliver water to your cells when your body is resting and trying to heal itself.”
Getting good drinking water is made even more convenient with options to stop by and fill up or take advantage of delivery service to your home or office. “We have a delivery service for residential homes and commercial businesses. We deliver to Holbrook, Snowflake, Taylor, Show Low, Pinetop-Lakeside, St. Johns and Springerville. We are very competitively priced and come by every two weeks. You can call (928) 537-2962 for more information and to start your water delivery,” says Mike, “If you have the time available in the schedule, you can also come down to the store where we have four indoor stations as well as an outdoor (available 24/7) filling station. As part of our love for the water, we disinfect all of our equipment and handles two times a day. So not only is the water pure, but we take tremendous pride in keeping things clean too.”
Although the Pour Station is conveniently located in Show Low and offers free wifi, available outlets for charging devices and a gorgeous meadow view, there are times when you need coffee in your pajamas. With that in mind, Mike and Adria are now offering a line of Pour Station coffee beans. “We have Zachar Bay, which is our medium roast and Saltery Cove, a dark roast. The coffee lines were named in honor of our black labs whose names were inspired by a couple of beautiful locations on Kodiak Island,” smiles Mike, “We sell the coffee as whole beans, but we can also grind it for you. The beans are roasted locally by our roaster who works with fair trade organic beans. As a matter of fact, everything we offer is as organic as we can get even down to the maple syrup we use in our coffee drinks.”
Mike and Adria pride themselves on working with other local businesses and being very involved in the community. Seeing a need for a more dependable source of dry ice, they partnered with Reddy Ice to offer dry ice throughout the summer. “A lot of hunters use dry ice to keep their meat colder a lot longer. We see a lot of rafters and campers and other outdoors people looking for it. Some people come in and pick it up to put in their cooler while traveling to the valley. There is quite a demand for it and even Walmart has a hard time keeping it in stock. Their truck only comes so often and with the help of Reddy Ice, we can get a truck when we need it,” says Adria.
This commitment to the community continues on in Mike and Adria’s seemingly inexhaustible participation in local events and organizations. Not only does Adria serve on the Executive Board for the Show Low Chamber of Commerce, she is also on the Show Low Main Street Board. In her free time, she has recently begun selling LulaRoe, a special line of women’s clothing. Mike is on the Pinetop-Lakeside Chamber of Commerce Board as well as the Summit Healthcare Foundation Board. He is very active on the Derby Down the Deuce committee and can frequently be seen emceeing events like the annual Spooktacular Festival in Show Low, the Show Low Christmas Tree Lighting and the Summit Healthcare Gala.
When it comes to charitable events, Mike and Adria are always there to help with their time and of course, life saving water. “There are a number of events and causes that are very close to our hearts. Sue’s Crew is an event we have been involved with since the beginning. Jim did his first walk when we were located behind Show Low Ford. We have provided water that year and every year since. We spend the whole day of the event making sure all the coolers are full of water. I always end up camping out at CVS in Show Low near the end for the last walkers trickling in,” smiles Adria, “The White Mountain SAFE House is also a very important cause for us. We have supported Show Low PD a lot this year. They have gone through some rough times. We have donated a lot of coffee and hosted Coffee With A Cop, which was a really neat event. We look forward to hosting it again.”
To which Mike adds, “When it comes to events, we are always happy to help. We have supplied water for the Shoot the Deuce event, the Bike Rodeo, bike races, triathlons and a youth camp hosted by the Drug Coalition. I also do a lot of work with St. Jude and the Qcountry St. Jude Radio-a-thon. We always have little pin ups you can purchase for a dollar to support St. Jude. We are always happy to help where we can. Our business is only going to succeed if this whole mountain succeeds. That has been our vision and thought process from the get go. We want everybody to enjoy a decent quality of life and to do that it takes all of us working together.”
The Pour Station is located at 360 S. White Mountain Road in Show Low. Hours of operation are Mon. – Thurs. 6 am – 4pm, Fri. 6 am – 6 pm and Sat. 8 am – 4 pm. For more information, please call (928) 537-2962.
