Buying furniture can be a stressful affair. It may only be a sofa, but it can quickly become more complicated than buying your first car. Will this sofa be a comfortable welcoming presence in your home? Will it play well with your other décor? With endless choices of color, fabric, and style to choose from, you must also consider functionality, quality, and cost. Can this sofa endure the constant punishment of toddlers or your furry friends? Will this sofa last longer than your financing agreement? Maybe the kids have grown up and you’re ready to buy furniture you can afford to really love, but how do you know which brands are truly built to last? To make matters worse, the showroom floor of a furniture store can quickly become a high-pressure sales environment where you are pushed to buy right NOW or buy an entire set to get a deal when after all, you only really need a sofa.
Does furniture buying really have to be this stressful? Thankfully, the answer is no because there are local entrepreneurs such as Jeremy Lewis of Furniture Gallery who are just as concerned (if not more) with customer satisfaction as they are with making the sale.
“It shouldn’t have to be painful to buy furniture or a mattress. We focus on customer service so our customers feel comfortable shopping at their own pace in the store,” says Jeremy smiling during our recent interview, “We have a very hands-on approach when it comes to educating people and helping them understand what they’re buying, but we aren’t so hands-on that people feel pressured. We try to follow more of an every day, low-price model where if someone just wants to buy one item, they are still getting a really great price without having to buy an entire set of furniture. We want every customer who walks in to feel like they are receiving the same treatment whether they buy an end table or an entire house of furniture. We also work hard to find financing options for our customers including first look, second look, and third look financing. For the most part, we offer free delivery, which is unheard of anymore. We had a customer on Saturday where we delivered a new sectional and then took their old sofa set to their daughter’s house. We are happy to do whatever we can to make it easier to buy new furniture.”
Opened July 6th, Furniture Gallery in Snowflake offers a full range of furniture including sofas, love seats, coffee tables, end tables, recliners, dining sets, entertainment centers, a huge selection of mattresses, and more. They carry well-known brands such as Simmons Beautyrest, Southern Motion, and Ashley Furniture, but they also carry specialty items such as rustic, solid-wood furniture from Mexico in a fun palette of colors.
“In addition to customer service, I think the main thing we offer is a large variety of different styles and fabric choices. We always have various feature sales going and promote different items at different times. We also have holiday sales on Memorial Day, Labor Day, and so on. The best part about our sales is that we can offer extra benefits from the manufacturers. On certain holidays, we can offer up to 60 months no-interest financing and things like that. We are part of a national buying group, which allows us to offer the same specials you might get in Phoenix right here in Snowflake,” says Jeremy. “We also aren’t limited to the square footage of this store because we have two other stores from which we can pull inventory. If a customer knows what they want, I can send them pictures of available items we have in our other stores. Special orders can sometimes take as much as six weeks to get in, whereas if it is sitting in our Silver City or Deming store, I can have it to them next week.”
No stranger to the furniture business or the White Mountains, Jeremy and his family have returned to the area from New Mexico to open their third store. “I am originally from Snowflake. I grew up here and graduated from Snowflake High School. A week after my wife and I were married, we moved to Silver City, New Mexico, to go to college. We were there for four years and while I was there, I worked at a furniture store,” notes Jeremy. “After I graduated, we moved back to Snowflake for a few years, but in 2004, we returned to Silver City to purchase the store I had worked at. We slowly built that store up and in 2008, we opened another store in Deming, New Mexico. It had been twelve years since we lived here and we were really wanting to get back to the area. This location up on the hill became available and had been a furniture store before. We saw it as a good opportunity to open this store and it has been going really well so far. People seem really happy with our selection and prices. I still go back to New Mexico every week for a few days and our manager Ray Drennan runs this store while I’m gone. My wife and kids also help out. ”
You can never have enough help when it comes to being a small-business owner and Jeremy has really appreciated having access to a resource such as NPC’s Small Business Development Center. “The Small Business Development Center has been really helpful. I have a lot of experience with operations, but when it comes to making sure we are being seen on the internet with Google search and such, they have been really helpful. We look forward to continue working on that,” says Jeremy, “I would recommend NPC’s SBDC to any business owner.”

Furniture Gallery is open Monday through Friday from 9 A.M. to 6 P.M. and on Saturdays from 9 A.M. to 5 P.M.
