Arizona Gives Day Raises Funds for NPC Student Scholarships

NPC Friends & Family Fundraising Campaign Raises $27,201

“It really is a few caring people who change the world!” gushed Betsyann Wilson, executive director of Northland Pioneer College Friends and Family, at the conclusion of Arizona Gives Day on Tuesday, April 5. The nonprofit alliance received $22,201 in donations plus a $5,000 bonus from Arizona Gives Day corporate sponsor 1st Bank to help support student scholarships.

“There were 900 nonprofits registered for this year’s one-day campaign, and we finished 24th overall, statewide, including small, medium, and large groups,” added Wilson. Friends and Family is considered a small, rural nonprofit.

“We raised $7,967 more than our initial participation last year, with 117 donors, many of them new, qualifying Friends and Family for the additional $5,000 bonus, above what was donated,” continued Wilson. “In an heroic, down-to-the-wire finish, my—no adjectives are adequate here—board president, Eric Bishop, made two last-minute, ace-up-the-sleeve gives to hold us in fourth place, making us eligible for a $5,000 bonus.”

“Mark Jeffries and our friends at Frontier Communications blew it out of the water! With their generous challenge gift, we raised our first $5,000 before 8:30 a.m., and they matched it! It set the tone for the whole day!”

This year’s donors included several students. “My favorite donation came from a past NPC Friends and Family grant recipient. He knows who he is, and I think he’s awesome. Way to pay it forward, my friend!” remarked Wilson. “No matter how you look at it, NPC students won big through the generous donations of many people,” she concluded.
