Food across the the world and at sea brings people together, creating memories over a shared meal. Cuisine on cruise lines has come a long way from the crowded buffets with just ho-hum food. Today’s cruise ships offer a variety of delicious and elegant culinary choices from hand tossed pizza to gourmet multi-course meals which will satisfy your inner foodie.
One cruise line is Princess Cruises, it has definitely increased the stakes with offerings like its Chocolate Journeys, designed by Master Chocolatier and Pastry Chef Norman Love, Vines, voted Best Wine Bars at Sea by USA Today and The Whiskey Menu which features over 60 international varieties. There is also afternoon tea, a delightful tradition offered daily. Choose from a selection of tea sandwiches, cookies, scones, hearty jams and chocolates. One of my favorites is the International Cafe, it always has something delicious for you to try, including grilled paninis, gourmet salads, daily soups and of course tasty desserts.
Also new is the Salty Dog Gastropub, featuring satisfying inventive specialties and exceptional libations. Princess has partnered with Ernesto Uchimura – inaugural chef of the original Umami Burger Restaurant. You can find the Salty Dog Gastropub experience in the Wheelhouse Bar onboard select ships. So, gather in the comfortable, pub-style atmosphere to share distinctive dishes like Maryland style jumbo lump crabcakes, raise a toast with drinks from around the world, and enjoy live music.
Princess has recently brought aboard Curtis Stone, all foodies will know the name, but for those who don’t know him, he is an award winning restaurateur, New York Times best-selling cookbook author and TV host. He is a chef first and foremost, dedicated to the craft of creating simple, flavorful food. Discover how he’s bringing his fresh philosophies to the high sea with his new dining concepts aboard Princess Cruises.
Curtis Stone’s SHARE restaurant places togetherness at the center of your specialty dining experience: signature dishes that are designed to let family and encourage new friends to connect over conversation and cuisine. You’ll feel right at home as you gather at a communal table or relax on a leather banquette. There’s no need to choose just one dish from the menu of fresh, seasonal plates, as everything is thoughtfully created to be shared among your table: reminisce about your day on shore as you nibble on charcuterie with house made pickles; sip a crisp white wine paired with Parmesan crusted, twice cooked duck with fennel, served with a decadent side of creamy potatoes gratin with truffles. Of course, every meal deserves to end with a satisfyingly sweet bite, perhaps dark chocolate Cremeux with toasted hazelnut feutilletine and burnt vanilla bean ice cream? While the dishes are designed to share, Curtis understands you might want to gobble up a comforting dish all by yourself. Don’t worry there are no “SHARE” police!
Curtis Stone’s SHARE restaurant is currently featured aboard the Ruby Princess and Emerald Princess. However, across the entire Princess fleet, the Main Dining Room also adopts Chef Stone’s flair, with “crafted by Curtis” specialties thoughtfully peppering the menu. Personal reflections accent each selection, and are prepared with only the freshest, most authentic ingredients. You’ll be enticed by chicken and leek pot pie or roasted pork belly with cognac applesauce and seafood stew.
