On June 24-25, the ASU Alumni Association White Mountain Alumni Chapter will hold their annual White Mountain Steak Fry and Golf Tournament charity event at Pinetop Lakes Country Club. The goal of this charity event is to provide academic scholarship opportunities for students who want to attend Arizona State University. Over the past eight years, ASU Alumni Association has awarded $300,000 in scholarships to students from the White Mountain region. Additionally, the organization has provided $200,000 in benefits the Sun Devil Club Legacy Program, which supports student athletics and an endowment to the alumni association.
Their chapter’s signature event is the annual White Mountain Steak Fry and Golf Tournament. This is one of the largest annual Sun Devil events in the alumni network. The 2015 two-day event attracted more than 500 participants and over 170 golfers.
Over the past eight years some of the ASU coaches and athletic department personnel who have attended include Ray Anderson; Todd Graham; Frank Kush, head men’s basketball coach; Charli Turner-Thorne, head baseball coach; Greg Powers, women’s golf coach, and more.
Past players include: Randall McDaniel, Curley Clup, Ron Pritchard, Whizzer & Danny White, Rudy Burgess, “Jumpin” Joe Caldwell, Betsy Boardman, Andrew Walter, Jeff Van Raaphorst, Grey Ruegamer, Steve Bush, and Eddie Grant.
